I’m Verity, a musician based in London. I’ve made this website to collect my thoughts in one easily accessible place, having finished my musicology studies at the University of Oxford. Now that I’m no longer in an academic environment, I’m hoping this will encourage my growing interest in musical communication; and, if you like to read it too, then that’s a nice bonus.
Throughout this blog, the phrase ‘contemporary music’ will be used in accordance with the comparative definition of ‘contemporary’ as ‘belonging to the same era or period as another person, thing, or event’ (“Contemporary, Adj. & N.”).1 I will most likely focus on Western classical music, because that is where my specialty lies. So, I use the phrase ‘contemporary music’ to refer to Western classical music written by composers alive at the time I’m writing this.
